Kinja'd!!!

I learned just now that Cadillac is testing their S-Class fighter, possibly called the 2016 LTS (thanks for the pic, MooseKnuckles). My problem is simple: perhaps buy a car this year, or wait a couple of years and buy the LTS. HALP!!!

As many of you know, my current DD is a 2006 F150 Lariat 4x4. It's a nice truck. It hasn't really given me any problems, either, even though I've got about 102k on the odometer. My plan for this year WAS to trade in my behemoth, buy a mid-to-full-sized performance sedan and get my wife a slightly used Tahoe/Yukon. Why the large vehicles? Sedan for the three kids we have, SUV for the boat, hunting, and three kids we have.

But NOW Cadillac has screwed up my plans, the rat bastards. I'm actually a big Caddy fan. I like BMW, Audi, MB, Jaguar, etc etc etc. But GM's lux brand has held a special place in my heart over the past few years, mainly because of the CTS. Now, however, the LTS, due to the possible beauty and brawn that lays underneath that street camo, has my attention. And DAMN that would be nice to have if the package works out well.

My question to you, fellow opponauts, is should I buy a car this year (possibles are slightly used Jags, Audis, or new CTS-Vsport), or hold off for another 1.5 years to find out what the Big Daddy Caddy is all about? I try to hold onto cars for a long time (8+ years), so keep this in mind.

My body is ready for your answers.

simple; buy a car with insanely high resale and do both. Or lease.

Here's a start .

I don't think you'll have to wait 1.5 years for the answer. I'd say more like 6 months before some kind of reliable spy shot is taken. And judging from Cadillac's recent concepts, it will be well worth that wait.

Waiting for a car is a trap. By the time the new one comes out there will be another even better one just a year or two away.

I would wait because otherwise you could end up kicking yourself for 8+ years

If this car is so far down the road and no solid information is available right now, why wait? You could always stick to your current plan now, and switch over to the big Caddy once it comes out in ~2 years?

I've never leased a car before. I'm not against it, but I'd like to have a trade-in to offset some of the taxes due on the new ride, plus a little down payment assistance.

I could get a slightly used Jag XJ or a well-equipped Audi A6 in the mid-40's. I wonder if either of them would hold up for the next few years value-wise?

According to one outlet, it would probably be a 2016 model. That's speculation, of course, but that would only be about two years down the road.

More leaked info is needed.

That's a tough call, Jags have historically bad resale and the A^ will hold up only as long as they don't refresh it. A6 people are people who like to stay current in fashion trends typically. Go nuts and buy a wrangler or something. Why not? you're just biding your time anyway, and more cars on the resume never hurts.

Low mileage XJR. They hit rock bottom prices recently.

Kinja'd!!!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-XJR…

Sell the truck and get this and the Tahoe.

Drive it for 1 year, and just when the maintenance starts costing money, sell it off for the same you bought it for, or, at most, a $3000 loss, less than what major maintenance probably costs. Then go get your Cadillac. If you're wondering, these things were faster than the CTS-V at the time, and are still extremely comfortable and luxurious today (from personal experience, have a venture-capital big wig friend who recently bought one as a short term driving investment, knowing that they'll either go up or not lose value soon, they feel like a sports sedan should!)

If things go good for you, you can save the money and keep the XJR AND the Cadillac.

The V-Sport CTS and XTS are both already $60k+ cars before you add any options. Presumably whatever this newer/bigger thing is will cost even more than that.

So, are you willing to buy what will probably be a $70k+ car?

Stay the course. I am intrigued by that Cattletruck as well. But, I know there may be some problems initially and they always improve them anyway in the 2nd and 3rd years. You are in a relatively rust free zone so keep what ya got for now. IMO.

Waiting is good if you know what you're getting. Do you know you'll want the LTS? Then wait and buy it. If you're going by a brand and a fuzzy spy shot, you're better off buying a car now, one that isn't going to surprise you (unexpected fires, suspension recalls, inexplicably unpleasant steering, etc.) That said, Caddys are the opposite of Mercedes. The S-Class is the E-Class's gauche, nouveau riche neighbor with the golden statues around the pool. With a Caddy, bigger is always better, so if you're not going to get the LTS, lease a Jag, appreciate it, and be patient. 2017 PatBateman will be thankful.

They are sweet, really sweet. Much more elegant than its German counterparts. And as a former owner of a 740d I can tell you I were jealous that one time I stopped beside a XJ at a red-light.

Anyway, if you crack all those deals this year, I also recommend this. Mercedes GL450 4Matic I test drove one this former weekend, I love it, just a bit too big for Denmark.

Wait for the drivetrain specs to come out then decide. I would be leery if its just the 3.6L V6 and the Turbo 3.6L. This is Cadillac and its flag ship so it better be at least a LS3 underneath if not the new LT1 (serious doubt on that one though) as an option NOT V-series. If GM wants to do Caddy right for the most part its always been big engine for a big car. In the 60s and 70s what was Cadillac using to power those boats? BIG BLOCKS 390, 425, 429, 472, 500 (thats 8.2L for you metric fans). Yeah by 76 they were choked but what wasnt. This will be GM's Flagship not just Cadillac's so that should equal V8. Not to rag on Acura but the RLX is Honda's flagship, while the 3.5L and electric motors makes 377 hp which is really good for Honda but falls short of the German Trio. So if Cadillac wants to aim higher it needs to "float like a butterfly and sting like a bee". Dont get me wrong the V-series is great and i love it but Luxury of that caliber doesnt need to be around the 'Ring. Lastly it would share the drivetrain of caddy's flagship now the XTS which is good looking but meh on power. Plus i already love the RR like stance.

Still a Maserati.

It does not have to be designed by Pininfarina to be a Maserati. and sure, the basic components may be of Chrysler origin, but it is a twin turbo V6, so it has had some upgrades done to the motor.

2 quick questions: How much and how used? Also, I'd not go for the Caddy, just because it will always have that one panel of plastic or those few issues which will make it feel cheap.

For 55k, you can get ALOT round these parts! Some suggestions:

My guesses: 8 speed transmission, base engine is a tuned 3.6TT w/ 460 HP (2014 S550 has 449 HP). There might be another non-V version with a V8, and then a monstrosity V8 for the V.

I would hope they wouldn't ruin the flagship with an anemic engine/drivetrain.
